Improved liquid-level sensor for cryogenics
Liquid-level indicator, consisting of a diode heated by a resistor, allows simultaneous use of two or three of the liquids nitrogen, hydrogen, and helium. Operation depends on strong temperature-dependence of the forward resistance of a germanium diode and the difference between liquid and vapor in heat-transfer properties
Measurement of the analyzing power of proton-carbon elastic scattering in the CNI region at RHIC
The single transverse spin asymmetry, A_N, of the p-carbon elastic scattering
process in the Coulomb Nuclear Interference (CNI) region was measured using an
ultra thin carbon target and polarized proton beam in the Relativistic Heavy
Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). In 2004, data were
collected to calibrate the p-carbon process at two RHIC energies (24 GeV, 100
GeV). A_N was obtained as a function of momentum transfer -t. The results were
fit with theoretical models which allow us to assess the contribution from a

Purified water quality study
Argonne National Laboratory (HEP) is examining the use of purified water for the detection medium in cosmic ray sensors. These sensors are to be deployed in a remote location in Argentina. The purpose of this study is to provide information and preliminary analysis of available water treatment options and associated costs. This information, along with the technical requirements of the sensors, will allow the project team to determine the required water quality to meet the overall project goals
A Method to Polarize Stored Antiprotons to a High Degree
Polarized antiprotons can be produced in a storage ring by spin--dependent
interaction in a purely electron--polarized hydrogen gas target. The polarizing
process is based on spin transfer from the polarized electrons of the target
atoms to the orbiting antiprotons. After spin filtering for about two beam
lifetimes at energies MeV using a dedicated large acceptance
ring, the antiproton beam polarization would reach . Polarized
antiprotons would open new and unique research opportunities for spin--physics
experiments in interactions
Beam Performance of Tracking Detectors with Industrially Produced GEM Foils
Three Gas-Electron-Multiplier tracking detectors with an active area of 10 cm
x 10 cm and a two-dimensional, laser-etched orthogonal strip readout have been
tested extensively in particle beams at the Meson Test Beam Facility at
Fermilab. These detectors used GEM foils produced by Tech-Etch, Inc. They
showed an efficiency in excess of 95% and spatial resolution better than 70 um.
The influence of the angle of incidence of particles on efficiency and spatial

Measurement of the analyzing power in pp elastic scattering in the peak CNI region at RHIC
We report the first measurements of the A_N absolute value and shape in the
-t range from 0.0015 to 0.010GeV/c^2 with a precision better than 0.005 for
each A_N data point using a polarized atomic hydrogen gas jet target and the
100 GeV RHIC proton beam.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure

Analysis of AGS polarimeter data at G{gamma}=7.5.
Data were collected with the AGS internal polarimeter at G{gamma} = 7.5 during the recent FY02 polarized proton run. The addition of new forward scintillation counters permitted an absolute calibration of the polarimeter for both nylon and carbon targets. The results are summarized, and the polarization measured at G{gamma} = 7.5 is compared to that at 200 MeV
